Who We Are

Where to start?

It’s been a very interesting last 30 years living here in Japan. I’ll start with a little self-introduction.

My name is Mark Groenewold and I am a Canadian expat who has made Japan my home since 1992. I came here as a young English teacher, grew up a little to be a university associate professor, did karate for a long time, wrote a few books, married the spectacular Kazuyo, raised kids and dogs.

I’ve been a teacher, writer, professor, editor, consultant, business owner, travel designer, and life-long student of Japan.

Japan Incentive Group is our answer to helping companies and incentive travel programs provide a meaningful, safe, well-supported, and fluid program that meets the needs of the clients, and provides delight and awe for our new friends and group members.

Kazuyo and I love this work. It’s meaningful, helpful, provides a much needed service, and it is tremendously fun. But we do not do it alone. While we are on-duty and on-call throughout your group’s adventure in Japan, we also partner with some major travel entities and deeply established travel consortia who provide the buses, trains, hotels, ryokan inns, and help in connecting us all with the deeply undiscovered Japan.

We have brought so many people to Japan through our programs and welcomed them in a way that let’s them explore and discover this incredible country.

We would be delighted to provide our services to you and your clients. Between the two of us, our decades of experience, the languages we know, and the deep connections we have we can guarantee that nothing will be “lost in translation” for you. Let’s get in touch and talk.
