You’ve traveled a long way. The flight was okay but the food was… well, it was airline food. After a day of shaking off the worst of your jet lag you are now ready to get out to really see the nightlife of one of the biggest cities in the world.
Tokyo is home to 37 million people. That is bigger than a lot of countries, and they all live here together in the mega-city. There is nothing like it.
The trains that run like veins and arteries through the giant train stations of Shinjuku and Shibuya. The street after street of giant buildings and then you arrive in the downtown area as the sun goes down. The lights come on in neon and all walks of life teem in the streets. Kids and old people, salary-workers getting rowdy and loud after a long day of office-silence. Young boys with aggressive haircuts and young girls with impossible footwear. It all comes together – and somehow remains relatively peaceful and harmonious – the ebb and flow of crowds and the lack of shouting and yelling. Polite mayhem.
Let’s get ourselves a proper perch above where we can see the building lit up a the people swarming below. Let’s have a beautiful meal and proper drinks. The service here is sublime and you deserve it. You’ve come a long way to be here. Sit down for a spell, leave your worries at the airport. It’s time for you to celebrate that you’ve made it.
Tokyo.
